Game 1: Chicago Bulls at Brooklyn Nets

Game 1: Chicago Bulls at Brooklyn Nets

Apr 21, 2013

Brooklyn Nets at Chicago Bulls – April 20, 2013

The Summary: In the first playoff game for the new Brooklyn Nets, they are pitted against a Derrick Rose-less Chicago. However, don’t take away from this team, when they bring intensity they can be one of the most dangerous teams in the league, but in their Game One game, they didn’t. Leading to an easy run to a victory for Deron Williams and the Nets with the score of 89-106, this included a 26 point lead. The leading force for the Bulls, Joakim played only thirteen minutes and scored only four points leaving Carlos Boozer to go for 25 points on 12-20 shooting which is alright. Off the bench, Nate Robinson’s tiny frame exploded for 17 points on 8-12 shooting. Despite a good shooting performance from the two, it couldn’t outlast Joe Johnson, Deron Williams and Brook Lopez who combined for 23 makes on 43 attempts. The Nets and Bulls were close for the 1st quarter but after the 16-20 2nd quarter, the Nets ran away with it, stopping any mini-runs and starting their own with the electric crowd presence.

How Chicago Can Improve: Chicago needs to contain Deron Williams, anything to help him from getting into the lane and kicking it out. More help defense from Boozer would be a big help but as we all know, he’s not the best at defense being distracted by simple pick and rolls that are just decoys. We all know, if help defense does come in, Deron has enough court vision and basketball IQ to pass it out to the open man, which could possibly lead to a three or an easy dunk. There’s not many holes you can pick at within the game Brooklyn played, which is why they won by 17.

After Game One Series Prediction: Brooklyn in 6, I can see Chicago come back with fire next game with Thibbs trying to pick apart the Nets’ game and they have a chance at home as well. However, Brooklyn will outlast the Bulls and it’s easy to see with Deron playing at such a high level.
