“Cray Cray” Sports Stuff…Fourth of July Edition

Jul 3, 2013

When I asked my kids why they kept calling me “Cray Cray” my 11 yr. old daughter patiently explained “because you’re crazy Dad”.  Being the cool, hip dad and sports writer I am, I put it in my captivating headline to get you cray cray sports fans to read about some of the wackiness (my generation’s word) happening recently in the sports world.

1)  Back to Back No Nos for Reds Homer Bailey:  Throwing his 2nd no hitter in 10 months, this time against the S.F. Giants, Bailey may be looking at a starting spot in Cinci’s rotation.  Being compared to his childhood idol Nolan Ryan has this kid looking at a bright future.

2)  Injuries and Upsets Decimate Field at Wimbledon:  This week will be a week of infamy as several tennis greats went down and out early at the All England Tennis and Croquet Club.  Roger Federer bowed to a Ukrainian lad named Sergiy Stakhovsky. This after we watch a shocking first round ouster of Rafael Nadal by Steve Darcis, a player who got into the tournament only after higher ranking players withdrew from action.

Careful not be shown up by the men, we saw none other than phenom Serena Williams get handily shown the door by German Sabine Lisicki in a baffling upset.  Injuries to No 2 seed Victoria Azerenka and No 3 Maria Sharapova left the grass courts looking in need of some landscaping.  While this opened the door for the likes of Sloane Stephens from the U.S. she too hit the exits after a great win over Monica Puig but folding in the fourth round to Marion Bartoli.  Her million dollar smile and even more impressive play is sure to return and keeps the tennis world anticipating the next great American player.

3) Bus Crashes Finish Line at Tour de France:  The heading says it all so look at the story here on SportsPassion.

4) Tim Tebow Attempts to Break Up a Fight Featuring Aaron Hernandez?: The imagery is fantastic!   The Orlando Sentinel recalls a story where the peacemaker Tebow tries to stop Hernandez in a fight against a club employee in Gainesville.  It evidently didn’t work as the employee suffered a ruptured eardrum.  Owie….

5) Danica Patrick at 91 in the Forbes Most Powerful Celebs List: Wow?  I actually  figured she would be higher in the list where once again Oprah Winfrey is sitting pretty at the top.  Ms. Patrick of car racing fame is at 91, beating out Amy Poehler, George Lopez, Ray Romano, Kevin Hart, Zooey Deschanel, Louis C.K., Melissa McCarthy, Joss Whedon and Miranda Kerr.

Just Cray Cray…..
