Game 1: Hawks at Indiana

Atlanta Hawks at Indiana Pacers – April 21, 2013

The Summary: Atlanta and Indiana had a great first game for the most part, with Indiana getting the win with a 90-107 score. Josh Smith went in on the first quarter making some long distance shots but it derailed soon as he got comfortable with settling with them and the shot selection felt weak soon enough. Ill-advised passes that sparked steals and easy dunks highlighted a problem with Atlanta, which is their transition defense that lacks heavily. The highlight player of the game was Paul George posting up a triple double with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists. Although George shot 3-13 from the field it was the amazing amount of free throws he got to attempt for the game, making 17 out of 18 attempts. That’s saying a lot by the defense of the wings that couldn’t contain him.

How Atlanta Can Improve: Better shot selection, trying to get into the lane more, being more aggressive on the offensive end and smarter on the defensive end. They also –like how Chicago needs to contain Deron – Atlanta needs to try and let Paul George take jump shots and not get into the lane for easy kick out passes or dunks. It’s not acceptable for the team but who knows, it may get better on Wednesday.

After Game One Series Prediction: Indiana in 5. Indiana is an overall better team and without Granger they’re still a hard match.
