How Do We Always Forget About the Spurs

Mar 30, 2014

Every single year the same thing happens. We get caught up in the garbage Eastern Conference, and the flashy teams of the Western Conference. We have arguements about whos going to come out of the both conferences and when it comes to the West we always forget about one team. Then that one smartass takes the easy route by saying “I’m going with the Spurs”. We all then question if this guy has even watched the Spurs this year which and he usually says no because their “boring”.

When I say we, I really mean I, but I know its someone out there that can relate. Year in and year out the San Antonio Spurs stay under the radar all year until they start taking out popular teams in the playoffs. Right nwo the Spurs are on a 16 game winning streak and sit at the top of the West and NBA with a 56-16 record. I don’t know how that isn’t big news but i can guarantee you this doesn’t surprise anyone.

When you talk about the Spurs first word that comes to mind is “boring” and thats why people don’t watch them. Now I can tell you the Spurs aren’t boring but I can tell you exactly where people get that idea from. Tim Duncan is boring as can be. This guy has consistently quietly been a beast. He doesn’t play fancy at all, being nicknamed “the Big Fundamental”, Tim Duncan gets it done by playing a solid all around game. Also he doesn’t give much to the media either as he has a laid back personality. I know so little about Duncan’s personal life that sometimes I google him just to see if I can find something, but it never works. Because Duncan is the face of the team, its pretty easy to say that the team is boring.

Once you get past Duncan though there are some interesting characters on the Spurs. First we can start with Tony Parker. This guy is pretty much an international playboy. He pulls beautiful women, makes rap songs and gets buckets. Then they have Manu Ginobili who is so erratic at times. This guy is the ideal 6th man as he gets off the bench and starts jacking, sometimes splashing every shot and other times throwing up bricks. Then we have Greg Popovich who is probably one of the most straight forward coaches I’ve ever seen. The rest of the team is made up of a gang of international players and a few american role players.

I feel like since the Spurs don’t play a very fancy game they get overlooked. They play as a team on both ends of the floor which is pretty hard to stop. Right now people aren’t saying anything about them but once the playoffs begin, we’ll be seeing a lot of Spurs Nation fans.

Was good though, it's me Everick Davis Jr. Born and raised in Portsmouth Virginia, I'm currently a senior at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. I watch every sport (not so much golf) but I am huge on the NBA. My favorite players right now are J.R. Smith, Russell Westbrook & Nick Young. Drinking beer and watching sports is my favorite past time and I do it year round! I used to play basketball on the regular until everyone else kept growing and I still stood at 5'6. So that's when I channeled my efforts into becoming the next Stephen A Smith or anything close to that. I currently write for "The Carolinian" newspaper in Greensboro, NC and intern for http://theurbantwist.com/ Random Fact about me, I love anime, my favorite one is One Piece! Second random fact, I got beatz! check me out http://www.reverbnation.com/ielabs
