Seattle Seahawks Outlook

Jul 31, 2013

The Seattle Seahawks had high expectations for 2013. After making a solid playoff run in 2012 and adding Percy Harvin, they had plenty of reason to believe they’d be in the mix for a Super Bowl. After Harvin’s recent decision to have hip surgery, they may want to lower their expectations drastically.

On Tuesday, Percy Harvin declared that he would be having surgery. This decision will leave him out of the lineup until at least 1/3 of the way through the season.

The damage to the Seahawks will be highly noticeable, and it likely takes them out of the contender pool for 2013. Not only will the Seahawks have to redo plenty of offseason offensive planning, but they will have to find a way to replace arguably the best WR in the league. A lot of the time when something like this happens, the team can rally around the idea of putting up a fight without their star player. This sometimes leads to short bursts of wins in small patches, but usually the end result is the same – no title.

There are silver linings for Seahawk fans, namely Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch. Wilson had a great rookie season and is expected to be improved in his sophomore year. Lynch is a premier RB in the NFL, and he’s in the prime of his career.

Ultimately, the Seahawks lack enough talent to push them over the top in the NFC. Teams like the 49ers, Falcons, and Packers will be too much for them to overcome this postseason, even if Harvin can come back from his injury.

Percy Harvin was the Seahawks ticket to the Super Bowl in 2013, but unfortunately for Seahawks fans, they’ll have to wait until next year.
