After an early lost Saturday by U.S. player 16th-ranked Sloane Stephens to Sweden’s Sofia Arvidsson, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, the American team looked to avenge the lost. Who better to call upon to get a win than Serena Williams? In the second rubber which was delayed due to rain, Serena defeated 66th-ranked Johanna Larsson to even the score at 1-1. Serena won both sets 6-2, to continue her undefeated streak at the Fed Cup.
On Sunday, No.1-ranked Serena was back this time taking on 54th-ranked Sofia Arvidsson that had defeated the Americans a day before. Serena was victorious 6-2, 6-1.
In the fourth rubber, Venus Williams competing in her first fed cup match since 2006, struggled with her serve but it still only took two sets to win for the U.S. No.21-ranked Venus Williams did not win as easily as Serena but she defeated Johanna Larsson, 6-3, 7-5.
In single play, the U.S. defeated Sweden 3-1.
