The Houston Rockets Are Making the Right Move With Chandler Parsons

The Houston Rockets have decided to decline forward Chandler Parsons team option to effectively make him a free agent. If the Rockets would of accepted the offer, at the end of next season Parsons would be an unrestricted free agent. Right now the Rockets are making a very good decision as now they will hold the keys to Parsons future.

After three years in the NBA Chandler Parsons has proven himself to be a great basketball player. After being drafted 38th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft, Parsons has been a big part of what the Rockets have been doing. Parsons is one of those do it all type players as he finished the year averaging 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.o assist. Even though Parsons was the third best player on the Rockets (behind James Harden and Dwight Howard) he probably was the most important player for them because of his versatility and team play. If the Rockets want to grab another superstar they would likely need to move Parsons but I think this guy is to good to get rid of and the Rockets must think so too. Instead of keeping him for another year for the cheap (like I thought they would try) the Rockets are looking to hold onto their small forward glue guy for the long run.

I feel like the Rockets have a decent enough core with Harden, Howard and Parsons to build around and that the presence of another superstar isn’t needed. Parsons is a good player that needs to be held onto and Jeremy Lin and Omer Asiks contracts run out next year. The Rockets could use more versatile players like Parsons to truly make them contenders. Also they should look for more building block type players than movable assets now that they have two superstars.

A guy like Parsons will probably get offered a lot of money because he’s a really good player and can be valuable for any team he goes to. Any team that wants a versatile small forward with size and athleticism (virtually every team) would love to add this guy and will likely try to. Hopefully the Rockets can afford to bring him back because Parsons is the type of player you want on your team. Either way the Rockets are making a good move right now by trying to lock him up for the future.

Was good though, it's me Everick Davis Jr. Born and raised in Portsmouth Virginia, I'm currently a senior at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. I watch every sport (not so much golf) but I am huge on the NBA. My favorite players right now are J.R. Smith, Russell Westbrook & Nick Young. Drinking beer and watching sports is my favorite past time and I do it year round! I used to play basketball on the regular until everyone else kept growing and I still stood at 5'6. So that's when I channeled my efforts into becoming the next Stephen A Smith or anything close to that. I currently write for "The Carolinian" newspaper in Greensboro, NC and intern for http://theurbantwist.com/ Random Fact about me, I love anime, my favorite one is One Piece!
