The Miami Heat’s Case for the NBA Championship

The Miami Heat’s Case for the NBA Championship

Jun 1, 2014

The other night the Miami Heat defeated the Indiana Pacers to make their way back to the NBA Finals for the fourth time in a row. The Heat will have to go through the San Antonio Spurs yet again to be crowned champions.

Right now the Miami Heat are trying to make some history. Right now they serve as the two time defending champions and look to be the first team to three peat since the 2000-02 Los Angeles Lakers . The Heat defeated these Spurs before so its definitely possible but it won’t be easy this time just like it wasn’t easy last time. Making it to four straight NBA Finals is no small feat and the Heat now have the chance to be called a dynasty.

The Heat are returning with the same supporting cast as last year minus Mike Miller. During the Pacers series Miami broke out Rashard Lewis who has been balling as a stretch power forward so he could be a key player in this series. The Heat three key additions (Michael Beasley, Greg Oden & Toney Douglas) haven’t cracked the rotation and shouldn’t be much of a factor but guys like Ray Allen, Shane Battier, Chris “Birdman” Anderson and Norris Cole should all be factors. Even with the injury to Tony Parker the Heat will need Mario Chalmers and Cole to really step up their defense on him (if not LeBron will guard him which isn’t a bad alternative but still they need to step up). Also the Heat will need Birdman and to a lesser extent Udonis Haslem to step up on the glass on defending Timmy Duncan in the post.

The biggest key for the Heat will be the play of the Big 3. During these playoffs LeBron James hasn’t had to carry the team nearly as much as Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh have been throwing down. Wade had gotten plenty of rest during the regular season and it definitely shows. Wade has been a monster during the playoffs with that unstoppable mid range and now he’s even taking (and making) threes. If that play from Wade keeps up and Bosh can stretch the defense with his shooting this team shouldn’t have many problems. Of course LeBron is going to go off, that’s just how it goes, but this team has a great chance to win the championship again it’ll just need to be a group effort, everyone needs to do their job.

Was good though, it's me Everick Davis Jr. Born and raised in Portsmouth Virginia, I'm currently a senior at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. I watch every sport (not so much golf) but I am huge on the NBA. My favorite players right now are J.R. Smith, Russell Westbrook & Nick Young. Drinking beer and watching sports is my favorite past time and I do it year round! I used to play basketball on the regular until everyone else kept growing and I still stood at 5'6. So that's when I channeled my efforts into becoming the next Stephen A Smith or anything close to that. I currently write for "The Carolinian" newspaper in Greensboro, NC and intern for http://theurbantwist.com/ Random Fact about me, I love anime, my favorite one is One Piece! Second random fact, I got beatz! check me out http://www.reverbnation.com/ielabs
