The Orlando Magic are Officially the Winners of Last Summer’s Dwight Howard Trade

By now everyone should know, Dwight Howard is signing to the Houston Rockets this summer. After an awful season with the Los Angeles Lakers where pretty much everything went wrong, Howard is moving on to a team with a brighter future. It seems like the Dwightmare might be finally over but I want to take a look back at how we got here now.

Last summer the Orlando Magic traded away Howard to the Lakers for seemingly nothing impressive. It seemed like the 76ers, Lakers and Nuggets all got the better of Orlando in the deal as they all got the big name players.

The Lakers got Dwight Howard, the 76ers got Andrew Bynum and the Nuggets got Andre Igudola. All those teams got extra pieces in the deal but it just felt like the Magic should’ve gotten way more than they did. The Magic’s main pieces from the trade were Aaron Afflalo, Nikola Vucevic, and draft picks.

The Lakers pretty much had an awful season and barely got into the playoffs. They were hit with injuries for most of the season and had no chemistry at all. They were always in the headlines but never for anything positive.

The best thing about the season was that trade add-in, Earl Clark had a pretty decent season. Well Clark is now heading to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Lakers are still stuck with Mike D’Antoni as coach and to top it off Dwight is getting out of there. The Lakers definitely lost this one.

The Denver Nuggets didn’t give up too much to get Andre Igudola and had a pretty successful season. They finished 3rd in the West but got beaten by the Golden State Warriors. It’s funny because now Iggy is heading to Golden State and the Nuggets are looking like they’re going in a new direction with a new coach.

The Philadelphia 76ers got the absolute worse of the deal as they got Andrew Bynum and he didn’t even play the entire season. He’s more than likely gone as the 76ers drafted Nerlens Noel who is definitely the franchise’s center of the future.

Pretty much every team involved in the trade, besides the Magic, is losing their prized possession of that trade.

The Magic’s future looks pretty bright now as they just drafted Victor Oladipo. They still have Afflalo and Vucevic had a great season and seems to be a good fit for the future. They also got another steal with obtaining Tobias Harris out of the JJ Reddick deal with the Bucks (who lost Reddick to the Clippers this week).

The Magic have been making low key amazing moves and now we know that’s what they were doing with the Howard trade. When the draft came they could have definitely picked a new big man to replace Dwight but instead they’re looking to go in a new direction. Good move.

Was good though, it's me Everick Davis Jr. Born and raised in Portsmouth Virginia, I'm currently a senior at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. I watch every sport (not so much golf) but I am huge on the NBA. My favorite players right now are J.R. Smith, Russell Westbrook & Nick Young. Drinking beer and watching sports is my favorite past time and I do it year round! I used to play basketball on the regular until everyone else kept growing and I still stood at 5'6. So that's when I channeled my efforts into becoming the next Stephen A Smith or anything close to that. I currently write for "The Carolinian" newspaper in Greensboro, NC and intern for http://theurbantwist.com/ Random Fact about me, I love anime, my favorite one is One Piece! Second random fact, I got beatz! check me out http://www.reverbnation.com/ielabs
