Who Will Turn It Around First: Knicks or Nets?

Nov 21, 2013

If you told me before the NBA season started that the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets would be tied for the second worse record in the Eastern Conference after a few weeks, I would probably think you were just a New York hater. Well nobodies hating on New York, both of those teams are just really bad this season. Both teams are sitting at 3-8 records and right about now are looking hopeless. From injuries, to coaching issues and even trade rumors both of these teams are looking like their in panic mode. Even with all the negatives going on right now, I still have confidence that things will change for New York’s two teams bu which team will turn it around first?

When you look at the Brooklyn Nets roster and then read it out loud, you would think “why are they loosing again”? These guys have Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Brook Lopez. That’s five guys who have been all-stars right there, but right now all of them have been anything but garbage. They’ve been old looking and injured and pretty much playing one on one offense. Their all kind of old (except Williams and Lopez) and are looking even worse on defense. Williams is a man of all the excuses in the world, as every time he plays bad he seems to always have some injury that we just wouldn’t understand. Lopez has been solid but he’s not tricking anyone to believe that this team is elite right now. Then the biggest problem has to be that their rookie coach Jason Kidd hasn’t shown any potential as a coach. There have been reports that he doesn’t even do anything and leaves strategies to his assistants. Thats alot of problems to overcome and those don’t look like they’re going away soon. It’ll take some one to turn up and play very well, somebody (cough cough Deron Williams) needs to step up and be a leader, oh yeah and they need a coach that coaches.

Now the Knicks problems are pretty simple actually. By names alone Brooklyn has a better roster but the Knicks arent too bad either. The Nets are having problems because their old but if I remeber correctly, the Knicks were pretty darn old last season and had a pretty successful season. The Knicks honestly just need to play better and close out games. Last night it took a comeback and overtime for the best team in the leauge, the Indiana Pacers, to beat the Knicks. I am admittedly not a huge Carmelo Anthony fan but with Tyson Chandler out, this guy has steeped up his game. He’s still taking a lot of shots but he’s not just jacking up from the perimeter, he’s going in the paint and banging for buckets too. He’s grabbing rebounds and looking to be making a effort on defense as well. Melo is a superstar and he’s been playing like one in the early season, now if he and the rest of the squad can close out they can do some damage. Theres no reason JR Smith isnt playing well, he’s just simply not. Once he gets going, he’s usually on fire. Andrea Bargani isn’t much of a defender but if he can learn to pick his spots better, he can be a great weapon when stretching the floor. The team needs to also play more team defense with Chandler out in order to fill the void. They can’t do nothing about Raymond Felton and Tyson Chandler being too hurt to play but they can still produce offense and attempt to play team defense. Also if the squad can give Amare Stoudamire a little more minutes and touches that’ll go a long way also.

In conclusion, I feel as though even though the Nets have more talent, I think the Knicks will turn it around quicker. They just need to play smarter and harder and they’ll be fine. Once Carmelo doesn’t have to carry the entire offense and the other players on the roster find their footing, watch out for the Knicks.

Was good though, it's me Everick Davis Jr. Born and raised in Portsmouth Virginia, I'm currently a senior at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. I watch every sport (not so much golf) but I am huge on the NBA. My favorite players right now are J.R. Smith, Russell Westbrook & Nick Young. Drinking beer and watching sports is my favorite past time and I do it year round! I used to play basketball on the regular until everyone else kept growing and I still stood at 5'6. So that's when I channeled my efforts into becoming the next Stephen A Smith or anything close to that. I currently write for "The Carolinian" newspaper in Greensboro, NC and intern for http://theurbantwist.com/ Random Fact about me, I love anime, my favorite one is One Piece! Second random fact, I got beatz! check me out http://www.reverbnation.com/ielabs
