Alright so I was wrong. Way back in the preseason I was assigned to check out the Carolina Panthers and the Philadelphia Eagles game. The game was completely garbage and I trashed both teams. Now both teams are looking pretty good. The Eagles are just starting to look better so I won’t touch on them but the Panthers have become something serious this season, and out of nowhere at that.
I remember when the Panthers were 1-3 at the beginning of the season. I couldn’t help but think “damn why does North Carolina professional teams have to play like garbage?”. Then they starting winning a few games and when I say winning, these guys were really winning. It wasn’t that they were just playing bad teams, the Panthers started really performing. Cam Newton started living up to all that potential and has looked like a really good quarterback as of late. The defense has really stepped it up, shutting down opponents offense, while Cam and the offense have started to click and getting some points on the boards.
Now the Panthers sit 9-3, riding on a 8-game winning streak. That’s not just luck either (they took down the 49ers and the Patriots), this team has been playing some good football. In a division that looked to have no threats, the New Orleans Saints might get knocked off the top spot by the Panthers pretty soon, like as soon as this week when both teams play each other. Who knows, we maybe seeing the Panthers in the Superbowl this year, it’s just been that kind of year for the Panthers.
