Its about damn time.
Yesterday morning the Charlotte Bobcats decided to waive Ben Gordon. This comes to no surprise to anyone who kept up with the situation. The Bobcats had been trying to trade Gordon all season but never got any buyers. After the deadline passed the Bobcats tried to buy Gordon out of his contract but that failed as well. So finally the Cats just waived him, right after the deadline for waived players to be playoff eligible. So pretty much Gordon is done for the season.
Gordon had been a disappointment in Charlotte. When they traded for him he was expected to come in an be a 6th man, similar to what hes done his whole career. Instead he continued down the path he was on when he played for the Detroit Pistons. Somewhere in between his time with the Chicago Bulls and joining the Pistons, Gordon just lost it. Last year under coach Mike Dunlap Gordon averaged 11.2 points shooting .408 percent from the field in 20 minutes per game. This season coach Steve Clifford was having none of that. Since Gordon doesn’t play very good defense and wasn’t scoring at an effective rate he was not in the rotation. His numbers were pathetic this year only averaging 5 points in 14 minutes during 19 games played.
What the Cats needed from Gordon was scoring and he didn’t deliver. Instead they traded for Gary Neal to come in and play that bench scorer role. In the few games Neal has played hes done his thing so I’m guessing nobodies mad.
Now that Gordon is a free agent and ineligible for the playoffs he probably won’t get picked up. I doubt Gordon has shown any team anything they would want anyway. On a team like Charlotte where scoring was needed, where he could of been the man, he did nothing to warrant playing time. If I was running a team I probably wouldn’t pick this guy up next season. Its a good thing Charlotte and Gordon have went their separate ways now there is a roster spot open for someone who actually wants to play.
