After being drafted by the Lions in 2010, the Lions have decided to part ways with the often injured running back, Jahvid Best. After only playing 22 games during his first two seasons with the team, Best was placed on the physically unable list before last season and sat the entire season out. It’s always sad to see good players getting cut and having their careers delayed because of injury.
I will say that Jahvid Best’s injuries were nothing to play about though, as he suffered quite a few head injuries which the NFL is having no choice but to handle. Since countless former players have been giving the NFL lawsuits because of damage done to them and the because of the notion of the league not protecting them, I can see exactly why this cut was going to happen.
It’s July 2013, the last time Lion fans (or anybody for that matter) saw Jahvid Best suit up was in October of 2011. That’s damn near two years. It’s understandable why he didn’t play a lot because a concussion is serious. After playing (and starting) for the majority of his first season with the Lions, Best was hit with a toe injury. Then the following season he suffered from a concussion during the preseason and then soon again in October which forced him to the injury reserves. Taking in to the fact that he suffered similar injuries when he was in college at California, this was probably the best move.
Still I’m glad that they won’t just throw a player out there, if they’ve suffered with a concussion but there’s definitely still more work to be done in order to protect the players. I think Jahvid Best knows that best.
