In the last few days, there have been reports of the Arizona Cardinals looking to move wide reciever Larry Fitzgerald at the end of the 2013 season. This move needs to go ahead and happen. It’ll be great for both sides. After the reports surfaced of the Cards looking to move Fitzgerald in the offseason, general manager Steve Keim addressed the report with this.
“I can tell you two things, and I want to make this clear and simple — I have not had one conversation with another NFL team regarding a trade with Larry Fitzgerald,” Keim said (Per ESPN)
Keim went on to say that the Cardinals are looking to keep Fitzgerald in Arizona for the rest of his career. I could understand why he would say that as just the other day (about right after the report came out) Larry Fitzgerald became the youngest reciever to have 800 receptions. In other words, Fitzgerald is a beast and the Cardnials know that. He’s been on the team since they drafted him number 3 in the first round in 2004 but still, I’m not buying that they won’t look to trade him though.
Fitzgerald has been a star wide reciever for the Cardinals and has done his share of record breaking, but the team around him isnt very good. Right now even though the Cardinals are a 500 team at 4-4 they still arent considered much when it comes to Super Bowl contention. It’s been a long run for the Cards and Fitzgerald but if they aren’t going to be a top team, his services are being wasted. They just have him a 8 year 120 million deal in 2011, but I couldnt see the Cardinals keeping him on a team that’s going nowhere. I understand that they may want to keep their star but maybe it’s time to rebuild. I take that back, it is time to rebuild. The team hasen’t been that good since 2009, and I dont see that changing without a full rebuild.
As for Fitzgerald I think he deserves to join a team that’s in title contention. He’s a star talent that should be competeting for a Super Bowl now. He’s 30 years old and in sports that’s right around the time when you start to be considered “old”. To be honest I only want Fitzgerald to move to a better team for selfish reasons, the guys my favorite player, so I want to see him win. If he can’t do that in Arizona (which hasn’t been happening) then it’s time for both sides to part ways.
