Don’t worry Giants fans; New York’s top receiver is not going anywhere. After already signing his 2.7 million restricted free agent tender for the 2013-14 season, Victor Cruz will be coming back to New York for years to come.
Cruz and the Giants have come to agree on a five year, 43 million dollar deal. This comes as no surprise as Cruz is one of the top receivers out there right now and was a huge part of the team that won the Super Bowl a few years back. It’s great to see receivers like Cruz get their big payday.
I have always liked Cruz’s story. He went undrafted in 2010, but got signed to a three year by the Giants just a day after the draft. His first year he didn’t do too much and didn’t even record a catch (Although he did have that monster preseason game), eventually he was placed on the injury reserve list for the rest of the season. Then during the 2011-season Cruz took advantage of some injuries and made a name for himself.
Not only did he get into the rotation but soon he found himself starting. Cruz became a deadly receiver for Eli Manning. In other words Eli could just throw it up, Victor will grab it. He even helped the Giants take it all the way to the Super Bowl for the win.
Last year he continued on his road to stardom and made the Pro-Bowl for the first of many times. This is definitely a great move for the Giants and Victor Cruz. Although his stats were down a little from last year Cruz is still the man and I definitely can’t wait to see what he and the Giants do during these next 6 years.
