Remember back at the beginning of the NBA season when the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Miami Heat in their first game of the season? Remember when they won their next two games and sat near the top of the Eastern Conference standings? Well those days are long gone.
Since those early days of the season the 76ers have only won 13 more games. There record right now is 16-57 and it was almost worst. When I say worst I mean like the worst to ever do it worse. The 76ers were on a 26 game losing streak which ties the record for the worst losing streak in American sports history.
The last team to do that was the Cleveland Cavaliers, in that season in between when LeBron James left and before Kyrie Irving came in town. The 76ers are in a little different situation though, after the Andrew Bynum experiment completely failed, the 76ers decided to fully rebuild by trading away Jrue Holiday, Evan Turner and Spencer Hawes all in the past year, leaving poor Thaddius Young stuck in Philly.
The 76ers were about to have the worst losing streak in the entire history of sports. In other words these guys are tanking very hard. Their roster is made up of Thaddius Young, Michael Carter Williams and a whole bunch of guys they found in the D-League.
Then they met the lowly Detroit Pistons. The 76ers actually beat the Pistons last night by 25 points. I knew the Pistons were bad but I didn’t know they were get blown out by Philly bad. The 76ers are going to get a high draft pick this year and likely get a franchise cornerstone. Hopefully all the tanking pays off.
