In a sad and brutal turn of events, the CIAA Championship game between Winston Salem State and Virginia State has been cancelled. The reason for the cancel comes from the beating of WSSU starting quarterback Rudy Johnson by players from Virginia State University.
Now my first question is a simple, what the hell?
Really?
So we’re beating opponents up before games now?
That’s the move?
That’s what’s happening now?
That’s a damn disgrace for the game of football. It’s not known why the altercation happened, but it did and I can say I’m not happy about it. The game has been cancelled pretty much because the starting quarterback, you know the most important guy on the team is in the hospital right now. What makes it worse is that the fight happened in the bathroom at a banquet held at Winston Salem State University.
“We don’t know a lot of what happened, but we do know our starting quarterback, Rudy Johnson, was beaten up and he didn’t beat himself up,” WSSU chancellor Donald Reaves (per ESPN)
Johnson wouldn’t even of been able to play anyway if the game was cancelled, all because of the beating. So its probably better that WSSU didn’t have to suit up because loosing Johnson would of been almost as brutal as the beating.
I hate to see stories like this because somebody actually got hurt. Sports are supposed to be a release from the stresses from normal life. In other words, sports are supposed to be fun. So seeing stuff like this just really sucks. I hope Johnson gets better soon and I hope the proper punishment is given to the players involved. The worst part is that the game probably would of been a classic, what a shame.
