Boxing Fans Mark Your Calendar for September 14th

May 30, 2013

The guy you love to hate, Floyd “Money” Mayweather has agreed to fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, on the 14th day of September. Mayweather made the official announcement by taking to twitter to declare the fight. Mayweather tweeted to his followers that he is “giving the fans what they want.” Alvarez marks the first undefeated opponent that Mayweather has faced in six years, when he took on Ricky Hatton.

Mayweather has been criticized for his fight selections and many argue that he only picks fights with people that really do not pose a challenge to him. It is believed that Alvarez will not only challenge the 36-year-old boxer, but Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KOs) has what he takes to take down Mayweather (44-0, 26 KOs).

According to ESPN.com, the 22-year-old Alvarez has been quoted as saying “It’s been talked about for a while now, and now that it’s signed, sealed and delivered, I am very happy. I will be the first to beat Floyd.”

Both fights have agreed to fight at a catchweight of 152 pounds. This fight is predicted to be the biggest fights of the year. It will be one of five fights left for Floyd Mayweather as part of his six-fight deal with Showtime.
