Cowboys Week 2 Preview

Cowboys Week 2 Preview

Sep 12, 2013

The Dallas Cowboys head to Kansas City for a showdown with the Chiefs this Sunday. This is the first game these two teams have played since 2009. Luckily the Cowboys are an opponent former Eagles coach Andy Reid is comfortable facing.

Both teams are hoping to start 2-0 after a pair of impressive wins in week one. The Cowboys won a thriller 36-31 against their NFC East rival, the New York Giants. Impressively the new look Cowboys defense forced SIX turnovers. After only getting 16 turnovers during the entire 2012 season, the Cowboys are off to a great start thanks to Monte Kiffin’s newly implemented Tampa 2.

The Chiefs defense completely dominated the Jaguars in their opener en route to a 28-2 victory. The Chiefs recorded six sacks and have another great match up against a Cowboys team whose biggest weakness is on the offensive line.

Mackenzy Bernadeau and Doug Free had disappointing campaigns in 2012 and have not shown much improvement through pre-season and week one. The Cowboys front office seemed to acknowledge the offensive line problems by signing 36 year old Brian Waters. Although he did not play last season, in 2011 Waters played well enough to make the Pro Bowl. No official word has been given as to whether Waters will play this weekend.

For the Chiefs to have success they need a solid game out of Jamaal Charles. This will not be as easy against Sean Lee and Bruce Carter. If Charles fails to pick up yardage, Smith will struggle in 3rd and long situations.

As long as the Cowboys do not come out sluggish following an emotional victory in Dallas, I think they will come out on top in a close contest. Arrowhead does have a history for being a tough place to play and the Chiefs will definitely be fired up to win their home opener.

Prediction: Cowboys 24 Chiefs 20.
