Hockey on the Up and Up Price and Attendance

Sep 21, 2013

After a long standing relationship away from the public’s eye, the Chicago Blackhawks went on a tear for the ages, a hot streak matched by no one else in the National Hockey League.

As any self-respecting hockey fan can tell you, the Hawks have been one of the most dominating teams in the league for the past few years.  Securing Lord Stanley’s Cup in both 2010 and this past year.  What many other fans of the sport may not know, is the staggeringly, almost alarmingly, towering attendance and prices to match.

Over half a million seats sold last year, stuffing the famed “Madhouse on Madison” far beyond listed capacity.  Stretching at the seams, poised to burst apart with the single domino of a small puck crossing the plain.

At a seemingly impossible 110.4% attendance the Chicago Blackhawk’s were at the forefront of attendance.  It seems as though the last few years, they have single handedly brought back the allure of the spectacle on ice.  And with the preseason just recently underway, the profusion of the crowd was nothing out of the ordinary, the number of fans totaling at near capacity.

The barn has never been so lively, and with skyscraping ticket prices, the fans have every right to be excited. Average ticket prices at around $90 face value would deter many a wise man from engaging in attending a game.  But as one can imagine, the resolute admiration hockey fans hold for their teams truly shines through despite such astronomical prices.

Hockey fans rejoice, bandwagoners beware.  The era of fairweather fandom is one of of bygone nature.  In this age of media attention, you are either a fan of your team or not a fan at all.  And with a turnout of over 2 million for a victory parade, a mean over-flow of capacity rivaling that of the Big House the Chicago Blackhawks, a member of the original six, are making quite a run as one of the best teams in Hockey.  Not only as a powerhouse team, with dominating point totals, but as an entire organization with some of the loudest, and most passionate fans around.
