NBA Trade Deadline Winners

NBA Trade Deadline Winners

Feb 21, 2014

Surprisingly I was not disappointing by the NBA trade deadline. I actually enjoyed it. The last few days I’ve tried to refrain from writing until the deadline passed so I did not say anything stupid because a player got moved to a new team. Now I can go off as much as I want.

When taking a look at exactly what happened it looked like nothing too big took place. Only a few impact players were moved but a few teams made some decent moves. There are  were not to many looser here but this deadline definitely had some winners.

Indiana Pacers:

About 40 minutes after the deadline ended I got an alert to my phone saying that Danny Granger had been traded to the 76ers. Shortly after NBA TV revealed that Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen were who Granger got traded for. So pretty much the Pacers traded their expiring veteran contract for two young boys who can ball. Turner will play a role off the bench as a scorer/point forward. Allen probably won’t get much run but he can be a good option in the front court. The Pacers got a scorer and another big man to add to their already deep bench. These guys are serious . They also gave up a second round pick but that probably won’t mean much. Pretty much the Pacers just got deeper and flexible since Turner and Allen will be restricted free agents after the season. The Pacers are definitely looking like the team to beat now.

Philadelphia 76ers:

I have never in my life seen a team tank this hard. The 76ers were involved in quite a few deals. They moved Spencer Hawes for Earl Clark, Henry Sims and two second round draft picks. They got involved in a three team deal and picked up Eric Maynor. They made a deal to pick up Byron Mullens and traded for Danny Granger who they will probably buyout. The 76ers won this deadline because they stuck to their game plan and continued to tank. If any team entertained me this deadline it was the 76ers. They are going to be really good one day but they did everything in their power to make sure that this year it won’t happen.

Miami Heat:

The Heat like to pick up players around this time because a lot of decent players get waived or bought out. In order to pick up a player the Heat needed to open up a roster spot. The Heat traded Roger Mason Jr to the Kings for pretty much nothing, now they have that spot to do whatever with. Nice move Pat Riley.

Los Angeles Clippers:

Every time I watch the Clippers I always said that they needed to waive Antawn Jamison and Byron Mullens. These guys actually traded both of them and got something back in return! All they got was a second rounder and draft rights to a guy that probably won’t come over. The best part is now they three open roster spots after not signing Sasha Vujevic to another 10 day contract. The Clippers now have a lot of flexibility with three spots open and some good players to potentially pick up. That sounds like a win to me.

This deadline was definitely nothing like past years but hey at least it was better than last year. Hopefully this summer we see some good moves.

Was good though, it's me Everick Davis Jr. Born and raised in Portsmouth Virginia, I'm currently a senior at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. I watch every sport (not so much golf) but I am huge on the NBA. My favorite players right now are J.R. Smith, Russell Westbrook & Nick Young. Drinking beer and watching sports is my favorite past time and I do it year round! I used to play basketball on the regular until everyone else kept growing and I still stood at 5'6. So that's when I channeled my efforts into becoming the next Stephen A Smith or anything close to that. I currently write for "The Carolinian" newspaper in Greensboro, NC and intern for http://theurbantwist.com/ Random Fact about me, I love anime, my favorite one is One Piece! Second random fact, I got beatz! check me out http://www.reverbnation.com/ielabs
