No-Name Key in Braves Hot Start

No-Name Key in Braves Hot Start

Apr 19, 2013

It’s more than likely that no one has heard of Evan Gattis before this season. Gattis is off to a torrid start in 2013 hitting .279 with 5HRs and 12 RBI’s. He was never a highly regarded prospect, never being rated in the top 100 by Baseball America. He was drafted in the 23rd round of the 2010 MLB draft from the University of Texas Permain Basin. You heard of it? Didn’t think so. The main reason for his quick rise was due to the injury of Brian McCann who is out until at least May while rehabbing a shoulder injury from last season. Gattis should continue getting at-bats at Catcher, First Base, as well as the outfield. For the Braves this late round pick is far and away succeeding all expectations and could find himself a fixture in their lineup.
