The people in the front office of the Indiana Pacers are doing some things right. These guys are making some very smart moves that’ll ultimately pay off. Earlier today the Pacers decided to sign Andrew Bynum for the remainder of the season. This move is huge.
The Pacers have one of the biggest players in the NBA in Roy Hibbert. He defends the paint at an elite level, he is so damn big that its pretty hard to attack the paint with his presence. To put it simply Hibbert just straight up gets in the way on defense and defends the paint like his life is on the line. The depth behind him features the non defender Luis Scola and Ian Mahinmi who is extremely wack. Mahinmi looks like Hibbert on the floor so you’ll find yourself saying things like “why the hell is Hibbert getting thrown around by point guards” or “why is Roy playing like a trash back up center” and then you realize that its Mahinmi out there.
When Hibbert comes out the Pacers defense takes a big hit but now their defense has the potential to be historically great. Bynum is another huge body. He can defend and play the same defensive role as Hibbert in the second unit.
He has a offensive game as well which adds more fire power to the Pacers bench that now features CJ Watson, Danny Granger, Luis Scola and Andrew Bynum. That sounds like a lineup to me. Now if they go grab my boy Rip Hamilton to run the back up two guard spot, man.
Anyways though the best thing Bynum will bring to this Pacers team is his 6 fouls, he’s going to use them. On the Pacers, Bynum can finally play the bruiser role that I’ve been dying for him to play. If he can stay healthy and stay out of trouble he can play a huge role for this team. Imagine trying to get in the paint where there is a 7 footer lurking around the entire time.
This team was already a contender but now they might just be the overall favorite.
