The Miami Heat Amnesty Mike Miller

The Miami Heat Amnesty Mike Miller

Jul 16, 2013

About a week ago, Miami Heat president Pat Riley said the team wouldn’t use their amnesty clause, which lets a team waive one player without their pay hitting the salary cap (they still pay the player though). Now apparently, somebodies changed their mind because sharp shooter Mike Miller is set to be amnestied.

This just proved that the new luxury tax that caused the lockout last season is really having an effect on teams. NBA teams are no longer overpaying players and not paying a price for it. Now teams that go over the salary cap will have to pay extra taxes, and I mean like millions so these amnesties make sense. I figured the Lakers would get rid of Metta World Peace anyway this offseason (even if Dwight Howard stayed) and I think him joining the Knicks is perfect but Mike Miller?

When the Heat signed Mike Miller 3 years ago it felt like the perfect match but the man was always injured. Even when Miller was healthy, you couldn’t help but think something wasn’t right.  The last thing I remember him doing in the playoffs was hitting a three, then holding his back. When he got in he always gave 100 percent effort, but ever since Millers first season in Miami, the team has been adding shooters to replace him (since he’s always hurt).

First it was Shane Battier, then last year they signed Ray Allen. I knew it was over when they brought in Rashard Lewis for insurance. They still got James Jones too, so we know the Heat have shooters. Seriously they probably would of amnestied him last offseason if it wasn’t for his amazing Finals Game 5 performance that kind of got the team a ring.

LeBron James, Dwyane Wade & Chris Bosh were all eligible for amnesty but it really came down between the “Little 3”: Mike Miller, Udonis Haslem and Joel Anthony. I was really surprised that it wasn’t Anthony because the last two title runs, they’ve gotten other big men to replace him and he kind of doesn’t play well on offense (look up the airball dunk). Cutting Miller will definitely save the team some money; it just was sort of unexpected.

Was good though, it's me Everick Davis Jr. Born and raised in Portsmouth Virginia, I'm currently a senior at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. I watch every sport (not so much golf) but I am huge on the NBA. My favorite players right now are J.R. Smith, Russell Westbrook & Nick Young. Drinking beer and watching sports is my favorite past time and I do it year round! I used to play basketball on the regular until everyone else kept growing and I still stood at 5'6. So that's when I channeled my efforts into becoming the next Stephen A Smith or anything close to that. I currently write for "The Carolinian" newspaper in Greensboro, NC and intern for http://theurbantwist.com/ Random Fact about me, I love anime, my favorite one is One Piece! Second random fact, I got beatz! check me out http://www.reverbnation.com/ielabs
