Thunder Get Westbrook Back Early

Nov 4, 2013

Russell Westbrook was supposed to make his 2013-14 NBA season debut somewhere near the end of the calender year. After only sitting out 2 games Westbrook made his epic return to the Oklahoma City Thunders lineup. So pretty much this guy was supposed to be back sometime in December but  three days into November he’s back in the lineup.  Amazing.

Westbrook already held the record last season for playing in the most consecutive games, which last through his 5 years in the league of never missing a game. In other words this guy isn’t human.

When I got the alert to my phone saying that Westbrook would play tonight, I wondered how he would play. He hasn’t changed. Not one bit.

His first play he completely ignored his teammates and went straight to the rack.  He was vintage Russell all night as he knifed threw the defense and kept trying to score. He shot 6 of 15 from the field, which acceptable because he was a little rusty. He finished with 21 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assist. Those are pretty much his numbers from last season, and that’s coming off of 6 months of not playing basketball.

Westbrook’s return completely skyrockets the Thunder to the top of the Western Conference. I’m not saying their the best team but their pretty close to it with Westbrook already back. His impact on the team was monstrous, as his presence lead to Kevin Durant exploding for 30 plus points. Westbrook is so damn good that he actually gets the defense to focus on him and leave Durant wide open. He keeps the defense on their toes the entire game, and played some solid defense as well. His scoring percentage was weak but he made up for it with a well balanced game and an aggressive mentality.

Westbrook’s return gives the team a pretty solid bench as well. Reggie Jackson, Jeremy Lamb and the boys all looked pretty comfortable together on the floor and made a positive difference. If the Thunder’s bench mob can take a cue from the Chicago Bulls bench mob of a few years ago, and play together they’ll be in pretty good shape.

Westbrooks return was pretty epic, now the Thunder are ready to make a run.

Was good though, it's me Everick Davis Jr. Born and raised in Portsmouth Virginia, I'm currently a senior at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. I watch every sport (not so much golf) but I am huge on the NBA. My favorite players right now are J.R. Smith, Russell Westbrook & Nick Young. Drinking beer and watching sports is my favorite past time and I do it year round! I used to play basketball on the regular until everyone else kept growing and I still stood at 5'6. So that's when I channeled my efforts into becoming the next Stephen A Smith or anything close to that. I currently write for "The Carolinian" newspaper in Greensboro, NC and intern for http://theurbantwist.com/ Random Fact about me, I love anime, my favorite one is One Piece! Second random fact, I got beatz! check me out http://www.reverbnation.com/ielabs
