No Women’s tennis match brings more excitement to the sport as much as a Venus or Serena Williams match. Whether the two sisters are competing against the likes of Maria Sharapova, Carolina Wozniacki, Jelena Jankovic or simply going head-to-head, it’s guaranteed to be a thrill ride.
Today was no different. The #1 ranked Serena Williams went against the #9 ranked Jelena Jankovic in the Family Circle Cup Championship round. A day filled with unforced errors (24)by Serena, the Williams sister looked defeated half way through the first set. Jankovic won the first set 6-3, but Serena returned seemly committed to winning the second set by getting all six scores and holding Jankovic scoreless. During the second set, Serena finally started showing the passion that her fans love to see.
Jankovic never quit, but Serena was just too much for her. The third set Serena defeated Jankovic 6-2 to secure yet another title.
On the way to the title, Serena defeated Camila Giorgi, Mallory Burdette, (#6) Lucie Safarova, (#5) sister-Venus Williams, and (#9) Jelena Jankovic to earn her third Family Circle Cup Title.
