What an Odd Beginning to the NBA Season!

What an Odd Beginning to the NBA Season!

Nov 12, 2013

Ok I know after the Indiana Pacers signed Paul George to his max contract extension, I deemed the Pacers as the team that had the best offseason in the NBA but I definitely didn’t expect them to be the only undefeated team at this point. There’s a lot of things about this season that I really didn’t expect actually.

76ers & Suns Competing:
Well lets just start off with the obvious. The Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns are supposed to be tanking to get a shot at the top spot at the very deep 2014 draft class. Both teams have started off pretty strong though, and even upset some top tier teams. Both team had acquired young unproven point guards in Michael Carter Williams and Eric Bledsoe to lead their teams for the future but both are leading right now. Bledsoe is living up to the Mini LeBron nick name while Carter Williams is just shocking us all by doing what the analyst said he couldn’t (shoot/ run the offense). Not much is expected from either team but it’ll be fun to see these teams compete every night.

The Battle of New York Starting Off Slow:

Both the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets should be ashamed of themselves. Their both supposed to be top tier teams in the Eastern Conference but both teams are tied right now for the very last spot in the entire conference.

I understand the Nets are old but these are old superstar, hall of fame players. Everyone in their lineup looks old and slow except Brook Lopez, but as we can see that’s not best. A lineup of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Brook Lopez should have more than 2 wins by now, simple as that.

As for them Knicks, I mean what the hell? Your not even playing hard teams! Bargani has looked completely garbage, Amare looks like he needs to retire and the only interior defender on the team, Tyson Chandler is injured. Iman Shumpert hasn’t taken that leap yet and now JR Smith is back and we all know he’s going to jack. Carmelo Anthony has to step up big time for the Knicks now. I’m not talking dropping 40 points for a win, I mean being a leader on defense and helping set up his teammates for easy baskets. If not the Knicks will continue to struggle.

Miami Heat 4-3

Yeah well this is pretty akward. The Miami Heat have lost to the Philadelphia 76ers, the Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics. These are all wins that Miami should of had in the bag. The 76ers are a young inexperienced team plus it was their first game of the season. The Nets have been old and slow and only played good against the Heat, and almost lost when Miami came back. Oh yeah and all the Celtics main players now are members of the Brooklyn Nets, and star point guard Rajon Rondo is out, so that should of been an automatic win for Miami. All of those games resulted in loses. I guess its that championship hangover, but if Miami wants to be champs again they need to play like champs. The offense has been starting off slow and it looks like they always need a comeback because of slow starts. This team isnt looking so super right now, and they havent even changed their rotation.

This season has definitely started off wierd, but I see this changing soon. Soon enough the elite teams will get out of their funk and start playing basketball, the bottom dwellers will eventually go on a loosing streak and go back to the bottom. Until then though, I’m enjoying this NBA 2k fantasy type of NBA season that we’re witnessing right now.

Was good though, it's me Everick Davis Jr. Born and raised in Portsmouth Virginia, I'm currently a senior at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. I watch every sport (not so much golf) but I am huge on the NBA. My favorite players right now are J.R. Smith, Russell Westbrook & Nick Young. Drinking beer and watching sports is my favorite past time and I do it year round! I used to play basketball on the regular until everyone else kept growing and I still stood at 5'6. So that's when I channeled my efforts into becoming the next Stephen A Smith or anything close to that. I currently write for "The Carolinian" newspaper in Greensboro, NC and intern for http://theurbantwist.com/ Random Fact about me, I love anime, my favorite one is One Piece! Second random fact, I got beatz! check me out http://www.reverbnation.com/ielabs
